Democratic Organization To Put Forth Kristine Morieko and Mary Barchetto for Glen Rock Council
The Glen Rock Democratic Organization at a meeting held March 15th unanimously endorsed incumbent Kristine Morieko and newcomer Mary Barchetto for council seats in the November election. Incumbent Skip Husking, also a democrat, has chosen not to seek reelection.
Kristine is Council President and is seeking her second term. She is chair of the Division of Consumer Affairs, member of the Planning Board, Library Board Trustee, Glen Courts Trustee and liaison to the Fire Department, OEM and COAH. Born and raised in Glen Rock, she and her husband, Bryan are raising twins, Madeline and Brayden. A municipal law paralegal, Kristine volunteers at the Valley Hospital NICU as a Patient/Family advisor.
“It is my honor and privilege to serve the community of Glen Rock as a member of our Council. I am woven deep in the tapestry of our town, my great grandparents first moved here in 1920. It is the commitment of our leaders, our outstanding volunteers and local engagement that makes me excited for our future. I look forward to a campaign about ideas and how we can, together, continue to make Glen Rock the special place we all know and love,” said Morieko.
Mary is a member of the Zoning Board as well as the Secretary of the League of Women Voters of Glen Rock. She is also a Girls on the Run coach, Girl Scout leader, former Central School HSA Vice President, and Cub Scout Den Leader. A 9 year Glen Rock resident, Mary and her husband Tony have three children.
“I am really excited to be joining Kristine on this ticket. I look forward to talking with and meeting people throughout this campaign and listening to their concerns and ideas. Glen Rock is a town of active, engaged individuals from many different backgrounds,” said Barchetto. “By talking to our residents, I’d like to help build connections between citizens interested in addressing issues and areas of needed improvement, the council and the town at-large to facilitate positive change that works for our community.”
The Glen Rock Democratic Organization was recently formed in Glen Rock. Its officers are Laura Occhipinti, president; Rob Dill, vice-president; Mary Barchetto, Corresponding Secretary; Saurabh Mishra, Recording Secretary; and, Len Greer, treasurer.
“We have had more than 50 people show up at our first two organizational meetings and that is just through word of mouth. Those of us who share Democratic values are enthused about getting involved in the electoral process at all levels of government. We are particularly excited to have two strong candidates running for Council here in Glen Rock,” said Occhipinti. “I also want to say thank you to Skip for his hard work over the last two years – he brought real energy to the council. I am glad that in Mary were we able to recruit a candidate who can continue Skip’s hard work and match his commitment to Glen Rock,” she added.
